This is my review of Iron Man 2 which I am not going to recommend to anyone after assuring Wendy she would hate the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo movie and she did not. So please make up your own minds :)
I went to see this a few weeks ago with Andrew but I have been so busy being a gym junkie that I haven't had time to write anything!!

Iron Man 1 was really good, wasn't it! I saw it when it came out. It was about Robert Downie Jr and ummmm a suit thing, and Gwyneth Paltrow...yes it's about five minutes into the film when I realise I really should have watched the first one again. I have no idea what's going on. Who are all these characters that we seemingly should know who they are?????? I really don't remember Don Cheadle being in it (yes because he wasn't, he has replaced some other actor that I don't remember), and also Samuel L Jackson is in it, was he in the first one????
It takes me about 20 minutes to recover from all this confusion, seriously I feel like my mother who is always whispering 'who's that??' whenever we see a movie. By this stage Mickey Rourke is doing an excellent job of playing a psycho Russian with a crazy whip at the Monaco Grand Prix, this is my favourite part of the movie particularly the portable suit in the bag thing, which is pretty cool.
Scarlett Johanssen, who I usually love, is apparently a goodie, I was convinced from the trailers she was a baddie. She has some shocking hair continuity that you really just have to see to believe.
The end bit is visually spectacular but goes on a bit, but overall I did really like it, once I worked out what on earth was happening.
Robert Downie Jr is looking disturbingly old (and if he's old I'm not far behind) but as usual does a great performance.
Verdict: Not too bad. 3 1/2 stars. Probably 4 if I had watched the first one before I went! Andrew may have liked it more, I think it is probably a boy's movie more than a girl's one.
PS I was going to do a review of when Natalie, James and I went to support Andrew at the Tigers game last week but after a debacle of a flogging by the Rabbits 50-10 it is kinder just to say we went and that's it.
Well aren't I glad that I didn't ask you to see letters from juliet with me. At least the total stranger sitting next to me didn't mind my"who's thats"
ReplyDeletegood review!!!
ReplyDeleteTBH, I really didn't enjoy it. It started off so badly...I was confused, annoyed and this time round, I found the Iron Man character really unappealing....which is strange, because I remember liking that was he obnoxious and flawed in the first film.
Also, I can't even remember the Don Cheadle character in the first film (he replaced Terence Howard) and you probably forget the Samuel L Jackson character because he only appeared in the last 10 seconds of the film...
Mickey Rourke was great, so was Scarlett (and oh my, yes the bad hair continuity hehe) and it's good to see Gwynnie on screen again - I thought she was superb in the first film. But here, she just looks annoyed.
The other bad thing was the final fight sequence which went for like 1 minute???? It was so easy for them to kill the baddie...such a letdown.
I wouldn't recommend Iron Man 2 to anyone.
Oh my lord...the Tigers getting thrashed the other week by the Bunnies of all teams!
ReplyDeleteThat was truly woeful...I've never seen them play so poorly. It was like watching school boys footy.
Also, I need to whinge about people saying how fantastic the Bunnies were and how they "smashed it". I'm sorry, but anyone could have beaten the Tigers that day (although the Bunnies 5/8 John Sutton did play very well).
I'm glad you guys still had a good time though. How funny was the guy who was shouting out words that didn't seem like English behind us? (although it was English). I think he was missing some teeth. Must have been from Campbelltown...
I forgot about Gwynnie - I usually really like her but her character was pretty much invisible in this one. And she just had a cats bum expression all the time. Sadly wasted talent.
ReplyDeleteThe guy at the footy was hilarious. I would say he was from the very western westyville of wests supporters. I couldn't work out for ages if he was joking or not (I think not). And that's the thing about going to something like the footy, you get to see all parts of society that we wouldn't normally...
